 Editing Services

What editing service is right for you?

When applying to literary agents and publishing houses, you want to make sure your manuscript is in the best possible condition. You never pay a publishing house to publish or edit your work, but if you are not publishing through us and still want a reasonably priced and professional edit then feel free to reach out!

There are three main editing services we offer, so have a look and decide which one you most need!

Developmental Editing

A developmental edit focuses mainly on the big story elements of your manuscript and critiques plot holes, character development, confusing dialogue, sentence phrasing, pacing, and any other issues that arise. The developmental edit contains a long-form letter which addresses the overall condition of the manuscript as well as direct notes made n the manuscript itself. A developmental edit takes, on average, a month to complete.

Copy Editing

Copy editing is what we typically think about when we think of 'editing'. Correcting spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc, line by line until the manuscript is polished and ready to move onto the proof reading stage.

Proofreading

When your manuscript is ready to be sent onward to the next stage, a proof reader will read the entire text and make sure it is completely free from errors or issues.

Cost

The exact figure varies from manuscript to manuscript and depends on the length of the text. For a free estimate, please email: lauren_ilbury@romareadspublishing.com with your desired service in the subject bar, and details as to the genre, page count, and word count of your manuscript.

Lauren Ilbury
Freelance Editor and Managing Director

I have specialized in story coaching to help authors in their writing journey for many years. When editing, I know that each book is unique, and as managing director I have had the opportunity to work with many genres of manuscripts, which allows me to understand your voice, vision, and audience when writing.

I have loved working with both in fiction and non-fiction manuscripts. Writing is such a collaborative process, and I don't view our collaborative process ending with the deliverance of the final edit. I am always happy to brainstorm, answer questions, celebrate your successes, and encourage and guide you when writing trials seem too tough to get through alone.

Editing Portfolio

Below are some of the manuscripts I have had the pleasure of working on! You will find the cover image of the manuscript, the name, and the author who wrote it. Below that, there is details as to which type of editing I took the book through.
